Keith spent just a short time with Voodoo DeVille. He came to the States while the Stones were on hiatus following the death of Brian Jones. Shaken by Brian's death, Keith came to the U.S. to tour the South in order to "recover his musical roots." It was on this southern tour that he encountered Voodoo DeVille. The boys were playing for quarters on a street corner in Jackson, Mississippi. He asked if he could sit for a couple of songs and was soon touring with Voodoo DeVille. During one gig in Atlanta, a doctor attempted to give Keith mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when he thought that Keith was dead. The ruckus that followed was quite embarrassing as Keith, thinking the doctor was trying to kiss him, kicked the doctor in the groin. When everyone had calmed down and the doctor had recovered, it was explained to the doctor that Keith only looked dead and there was nothing to worry about.
Keith's tenure with the band ended within a few short months as Keith became homesick for steak and kidney pie and warm, flat beer. Keith almost didn't make it back to England however. He began to miss the fun times with Voodoo DeVille and, while passing through Baltimore, he went on an all night drinking binge. He ended up in the gutter drinking Sterno. He passed out and inhaled his own vomit. However, this was quite a normal occurence for Keith and he recovered with no ill effects. He rejoined the Stones in time to record the Sticky Fingers album.
